Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a collaborative process between you and a licensed mental health professional. Individual therapy is also called psychotherapy, talk therapy, or counseling. Most often, people seek therapy for help with issues or traumas that are hard to manage alone and are getting in the way of their well-being, relationships, life-satisfaction, and optimal functioning. Those who feel uncertain or conflicted about what’s causing distress, or simply want to engage in a process of self-exploration, often find therapy helpful. Some people engage in therapy for a brief amount of time while others stay in therapy for longer periods as part of regular self-care.

Common goals of therapy can be to inspire change, build self-awareness, get in touch with and process difficult emotions, and improve quality of life and relationships. Therapy can help people overcome obstacles to their well-being, increase positive feelings towards self and others, heal from traumatic experiences, communicate more effectively, and make sense of difficult circumstances. Many people experience an increase in self-esteem, self-compassion, self-understanding, and self-acceptance. People in therapy can learn skills for handling difficult situations, making healthy decisions, and reaching goals. Many find they enjoy the therapeutic journey of becoming more self-aware, which allows life to become more fulfilling, fun, and peaceful. Some people even go to ongoing therapy for self-growth, even when life is already feeling good.
